7 Shopping Tips (when the clock’s ticking and your wallet’s getting thin)

With Christmas just 4 days away and Hanukkah already here, most of us are finishing our last minute shopping or maybe just starting! Are you are feeling the pressure to spend but want to avoid long lines and all the other crazed shoppers?

At AnotherME, we’re all about saving time and saving money!  That’s what we do for our clients every day.  So of course, we have a few tips for those who have waited until the eleventh hour to get your last few presents… and a few tips for saving some money in the process!

7 Shopping Tips (when the clock is ticking and your wallet’s getting thin):

1. Free Expedited Shipping
Most retailers offer free rush shipping in the last few days leading up to the holidays, look for codes before paying expensive overnight delivery charges.

2. Re-gift
It’s a dirty secret, but there are many who just put a new bow on an old gift.

3. Ship-to-Store Specials
For those who want to avoid long check-out lines of shoppers or the shame of offering your gift post-holiday, quite a few retailers these days offer free delivery to their brick-and-mortar stores.

4. A Picture Is Worth a 1000 Words
Avoid rush charges and purchase a present online, then print out a picture and wrap it up for under the tree.

5. Magazine Subscriptions
There’s a magazine for every interest! Find a monthly publication at the book store, order and wrap the December issues!

6. Gift Cards
They’re everywhere!  They’re easy to purchase and will save on shipping fees!

7. Best times to hit the Mall
If  you just want to go to the mall, the best times to go are early in the morning, mid-afternoon and after 7PM!  And why not plan to meet a friend for coffee, lunch or dinner to make your trip worthwhile!

Wishing you Happy Holiday Shopping …and while you’re in the hustle and bustle, don’t forget the real reason for the season!

Happy Smiley Faces are Popping Up all Over Facebook!

I’m always looking for a way to have a little fun while I’m working, but I don’t want it to be difficult.  Every morning I jump on Facebook to send birthday wishes to my clients and friends, read some updates and make a few comments. More and more I’ve noticed all the fun symbols my Facebook friends are using in their comments and Birthday wishes.  You’ve seen them…music notes, hearts, smiley faces!

It’s one of those things where you think – how did they do that?  But you never take the time to figure it out!  So I did!  And I decided to share them with all my Realtor® buddies…and spread a little ♥ and ☺!

1. Turn on your keyboard’s Number Lock.

2. Hold down the Alt key, then type one of the numbers listed below on the numeric keypad. (You must use the keypad; the standard number keys won’t work.) So, for example, to get a heart symbol, you’d press Alt-3. For a musical note, Alt-1-3 (meaning you hold down Alt, press 1, press 3, and then release the Alt key).

Here’s a list of some of the more popular symbols you might want to use. Print it, copy and paste it or do a Jing screen capture and save it somewhere for easy reference.

Patty’s Link to Great Holiday Classics!

I just was thinking about all the wonderful holiday movie classics I’ve watched in the past. Of course, “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “A Christmas Story” are usually ones my brain thinks of first. Everyone seems to find “Elf” especially enjoyable, but there are some others for you to consider. I’ll post a few suggestions in the upcoming weeks! Hope you enjoy!

Jingle All the Way
Into comedy? Then take a look at poor Howard Langston, a carpet salesman who is too busy to make it to his son’s karate classes and constantly disappoints him in one fashion or another. In an effort to make amends with his son, Howard sets off on Christmas Eve to find the only present his son really wants…an action figure of his television hero…Turbo Man.  Have your ever waited until the last minute to try to buy a gift so popular it was impossible to find?

“Jingle All the Way”  features Arnold Schwarzenegger as Howard Langston and Sinbad as Myron, a crazed mailman trying to find the same gift for his son, but becomes “postal” during the frantic competition for this child’s Christmas must-have! This movie is great for all ages and is near and dear to my heart!

What are some of your favorite holiday classics?

If you have been under a rock and have never seen the movie, check out the video below! Happy Holidays!

Fun Friday: Now, This is a Piece of Real Estate!

When I first stumbled across images of Palm Jumeirah, I was mesmerized. I never had a clue that such a unique and beautiful place existed in the United Arab Emirates. Palm Jumeirah is a man-made artificial island resort located in the Persian Gulf and obviously in the shape of a palm tree. The Dubai government built this beautiful resort by using land reclamation. Construction began in 2001 with completion expected in 2010.

94,000,000 cubic metres of sand and 7 million tons of rock were used to pour into the seabed to raise the surface of the island. It is reported that two F-100 fighter jets were sunk near the island to create a habitat for sea life and double as an artificial reef. I’ll bet the diving is amazing here!

Palm Jumeirah is home to world-renown hotels, apartments, villas, beaches, retail shops and marinas. There are actually three Palm Islands under development of which the Palm Jumeirah is the smallest, The other two islands are Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira.
